The warm weather of Spring seems to have finally arrived. Most of us, along with our pets, will probably be spending more time outdoors in the next weeks and months. While it is enjoyable to be outdoors, it also presents new risks to our pets. In this part of Minnesota, we have a very strong population of ticks affecting human and animal health. Each year we diagnose many new cases of tick-borne diseases such as Lymes, Anaplasmosis, and Ehrlichia in our dog patients. These diseases are carried by deer ticks, which are very prevalent in our area. Fortunately we can help prevent these diseases by using a vaccine for Lymes disease and using a good flea and tick preventive. We recommend vaccinating your dog every year to help protect against Lymes disease. There are several products that can be used for flea and tick control. We have been using and strongly recommend Nexgard, Bravecto, or Frontline Gold. Please contact us if you have questions about any of these products. Like you, we want your pet to stay healthy and happy!
